Mt. Veten

Mount Veten is the highest peak on Vågsøy island (613 m above sea level) and one of the region’s most popular hiking destinations. From the summit, you are rewarded with a breathtaking 360° panorama – across Stad, Nordfjord, Bremangerlandet, and on clear days even to the Ålfot-glacier.

Starting point: Måløy Stadium

Getting there: From Måløy town center, follow the signs towards the stadium. If arriving by by car from the mainland, cross the Måløy Bridge and continue uphill to the stadium area. Parking is available by the stadium.

Duration: 3 – 4 hours roundtrip, depending on pace and breaks.

Km: 4 – 5 km, depending on route and starting point.

Elevation (masl): 613 m

Ascent: 500 m, depending on starting point.

Terrain: Forest path, heathland, and rocky mountain ridge. Can be wet and muddy after rain.

Level of Difficulty: Moderate to challenging. Suitable for hikers with a good level of fitness.

Season: May – October. It is possible all year if snow-free and dry.

Round-trip option

This hike can be done as a loop that includes Kjeretoppane, Veten, and Brurahornet. From the trailhead you first reach Kjeretoppane, then continue up to Veten – the highest peak with wide coastal views – before returning via Brurahornet.

It’s also possible to shorten the route by visiting only two of the peaks (for example Kjeretoppane + Veten, or Veten + Brurahornet) and still make it a round-trip back to the starting point.
